Rivers and Mountains
Because of its location, the Andes mountains run parallel to the Pacific Ocean. The highest mountain is called the Huascaran. (22,205 ft)
A lot of rivers start in the Andes Mountains and run down into one of three basins. Those that drain toward the Pacific Ocean are really steep and short. Those that drain toward the Amazon River are longer and are less steep. Rivers that drain into Lake Titicaca are short and have a large flow. Peru's longest rivers are the Ucayali, the Marañón, and the Putumayo.

It borders Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Bolivia to the southeast, Brazil to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west. and Chile to the south,

The Andes Mountains define the three regions of Peru. The Costa, (narrow and plain) the Sierra, (the region of the Andes; it includes the Altiplano plateau) and La Selva (flat terrain in which the Amazon rainforest is located. 60% of the country's land is located in this area.)
